About Gail Newton
Gail has been an Acupuncture practitioner for nearly 30years and a Chinese Herbalist for 20. Whilst still at University in the 70's she was attracted by different philosophies and spiritual beliefs and was excited by a system of medicine which, whilst effective on a physiological level also effected the emotions, since it sprang from a time before the mind and body were separated into the domains of doctor and psychologist.
She initially studied 'Five Elements' at the College of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, graduating in 1983 and immediately embarked on studying 'Eight Principle' style. Her herbal training took place at the former London School (now University of Westminster) and was completed in 1995. Immediately after this, she embarked on a placement in a hospital in Kunming, Yunnan Province in China between 1995 - 1996. This entailed sitting with doctors in various departments including obstetric, paediatric and orthopeadic. Alongside Western medicine, the hospital offered Acupuncture and Herbal medicine.
After running a mixed discipline Alternative Medicine Clinic in the 80's she began teaching at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine until 1996. Until recently she was an external examiner at the School of Integrated Health at University of Westminster.
Gail has recently completed a five year course of study in Canonical Traditional Herbal Medicine with Arnaud Verschluys. She is still hungry to learn from the rich store of ancient knowledge. It will take several lifetimes, she says.
Her practice remains in the same area of South East London she has lived in for her whole career. She is a member of the British Acupuncture Council and the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine.
